The inaugural race through downtown Las Vegas turned into a very popular event for the fans and for the drivers. The course passed by Fremont Street and the fabled casinos for which Las Vegas has become world famous. Less famous of course, at least at the time, was the race winner Aussie Will Power. Will started off the season with this upset and led the drivers through a very exciting season challenging perennial winner Sebastien Bourdais.
